I am just starting my final year as an undergraduate at Plymouth University, I have spent most of my summer setting up a new society at Plymouth Check out the website. I am already starting to get an idea of what I have let myself in for this year. I am trying to juggle the organising of the society, whilst attending lectures, start my final year project and holding down a job at Maplins Electronics. But I am strangely upbeat about it all. I am doing something I truly enjoy and as such I hope this bubble I appear to be in does not burst.

We as we are now are getting up and running with the society, its our second meeting today. We have had a turn out in excess of 35 people... I see this as a triumph, we have 54 members and 3/4 of them appear to be attending weekly. the website is running and systems are beginning to fall into place. I am feeling like all the hard work has been worth it. All I need to do now is delegate and reap the rewards of knowledge that can be shared through the lines of communication I have set up. I hope that others get as much out of this as I think I will.

The first term went well on the whole, we had visits from security experts in Austria and even a trip organised to Bletchley park, that all had a good attendance. The society really seems to be finding its feet and I hope that it allows me and others to make good contacts for the future. In addition I have managed to complete an extra curricular paper on user perceptions of anti virus/ internet security (in conjunction with Steven Furnell, who is the head of the school of computing and mathematics here at Plymouth university) . which I have submitted to the Europe round of the kapersky cup. if selected the paper will be published on their website and I will be invited to Prague in February to present it, this will be an invaluable experience (if selected). All term I have accomplished this whilst holding down a part time job, I have decided that giving this up for the final part of my degree will mean that I will need to be frugal with cash but allow me concentrate on my final year project.
